Amidah The Amidah ("The Standing Prayer") is the main prayer in each Jewish service consisting of 19 blessings. The Amidah is also referred to as the Shemonah Esrei. The Amidah is recited daily at the morning, afternoon, and evening prayer services on a weekday. The Amidah originally consisted of 18 blessings but the typical Amadah now consists of 19 blessings. The first 3 blessings and the last 3 blessings of the Amidah do not change but the middle 13 blessings of the Amidah are modified for specific occasions or prayers. The tradition and custom of reciting the blessings of the Amidah, goes back to the very earliest times.
